Universal credit is gradually replacing working tax credit, child tax credit, housing benefit, income support, income-related employment and support allowance and income-based jobseeker’s allowance.
From 13 September 2017, Barnsley will become part of the universal credit full service area.
From this date, it will not be possible to make a new claim for working tax credit, child tax credit, housing benefit, income support, income-related employment and support allowance or income-based jobseeker’s allowance unless you (or your partner) are over state pension age, or you have three or more children.
If you currently get any of these benefits, your claim will not be affected by universal credit unless you have a change of circumstance that ends your existing claim. It is expected that you will be moved across to universal credit sometime from 2019 onwards.
